Congratulations to the Orange, Blayney and Cabonne sustainable collections project with took out one of the top awards at the 2011 Museums and Galleries National Awards recently.
The project is an advisory service assisting museums with the documentation and assessment of collections, and works with councils to improve the planning and coordination of museums. It was named the best sustainability project in the medium museum category of the awards.
The project employs locally based collections officers who work with museum volunteers to identify significant objects and distinctive stories in each museum, and improve interpretation and museum planning.
The Museums and Galleries National Awards were established this year (2011) by Museums Australia to celebrate and reward excellence in museum practice across the cultural heritage sector, highlighting the success of Australia’s museums, galleries and cultural organisations from small volunteer-run associations to the largest state and national institutions. Well done to all involved.
